문제는 이 “장카설”을 소비하는 방식이다. 주로 케이팝의 젊은 소비자들은 “장카설”인지 “카장설”인지, “설장카”인지를 놓고 무의미한 서열 다툼을 반복하는 모습이 지나칠 정도다. 이러한 서열 싸움은 최근 인터넷상에서 각종 밈으로 회자되는 “명품 브랜드 서열 매기기” 문화와 깊은 연관이 있는 것으로 보인다.

올 초 베를린 자유대 특강으로 ‘팬덤 경제학’을 주제로 케이팝 팬커뮤니티 결제시스템과 앱 설계에 대해 소개한 적이 있다. 그런데 강연을 들었던 학생들 표정이 썩 좋지 않았다. 행복을 좇는 자신들의 행위를 돈으로 환산하는 케이팝 비즈니스 세계가 영 불쾌한 모양이었다.

전속계약을 비롯한 아이돌이라는 직업의 특수성으로 인하여 조직으로부터의 자력 이탈이 거의 불가능한 상황에서 그들이 ‘항의’를 택한 것에 깊이 공감하며 이를 지지한다는 평이다. 어딘가 기시감이 들지 않는가? 나는 뉴진스 멤버들의 라이브가 배드민턴 협회의 부조리를 폭로한 안세영 선수의 기자회견과 너무도 닮아 있다는 생각이 든다.
